A visit to Loxton, South Australia
Last week I drove to my old home town of Loxton in the Riverland district of South Australia. I grew up on a farm a few miles south east of the town and later moved into the town itself for a few years. I attended the local Loxton High School in the early 1960s. I visit the town from time to time to visit family. My parents used to live there (until they passed away) and now a brother of mine and two sisters-in-law still live there.
Last week I attended the funeral of the mother of a school friend of mine. After the funeral I visited one of my sisters-in-law for the afternoon. Before heading home I did a little birding down by the River Murray.

Next time I visit I must take more photos around this beautiful river town.

Thank you for the beautiful photos. I was in Loxton in 1965, working on the fruit blocks and the fruit drying co-op. I had the most wonderful time. Friends included Dawn and Ivan Bell, Alan Todd and the Dolans. Thanks again, Mike
Thanks for visiting my blog, Mike, and for leaving a comment.
Sadly, I don’t often get a chance to visit my old home town Loxton much these days, despite having family still living there.
I think I remember the Bells but not Alan Todd.
I am curious about which Dolan family you know (or knew). At high school and later at university I was friendly with a Robyn Dolan. We would often meet for coffee and discuss poetry and great literature - ah, those were the days!
After university I think she travelled to the USA but we lost contact after that. I often wondered what happened to her. Did you know her?
I’m 62 next week and she was about a year younger than me. I still have several books she gave me at the time.
