My wife and I enjoy visiting botanic gardens whenever we travel. On an interstate holiday recently we visited all the major and few minor botanic gardens along the route. In fact, I especially chose the route to include as many as we could see in the three weeks we were away.

My wife enjoys looking at the plants, especially the native Australian plants. I enjoy looking for the bird life and botanic gardens with their abundant plant communities are ideal for this. I also love taking photos of the spectacular plants in flower.

Yesterday I shared a few photos taken on a recent trip to one of our nearest gardens, the Adelaide Botanic Gardens here in South Australia. They are about a fifteen minute stroll from the CBD of our capital city. Today I share a few more photos taken there last spring.

We always enjoy visiting botanic gardens, no matter where they are. We have found over the years that most gardens have an excellent range of plants and flowers which keeps my wife interested. I also enjoy taking photos of the flowers. An added bonus is the often prolific bird life, which interests me. I use my observations to write about on my birding blog.

One of the best – arguably the very best – such garden is the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. We have visited these gardens on every occasion we have been to Canberra. In 2007 we spent a whole day there and only covered about half the gardens.

In this post I will feature some of the flowers I photographed on our visit earlier this year. (You can see other flower photos in the posts published in the previous few days, and also in the coming few days.)

When you visit Adelaide in South Australia I would recommend a visit to the Adelaide International Rose Gardens. They are only a short walk from  the CBD. Next door is the Bicentennial Conservatory and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. A five minute walk away is the Adelaide Zoo and the River Torrens.
