Sunset on the Riesling Trail, Clare

Sunset along the Riesling Trail near Clare, South Australia

One of the challenges I set myself with my photography is to create attractive shots of sunsets. And sunrise too – when I’m up early enough! Over Easter earlier this year my family and I went for a walk every day along the Riesling Trail near Clare in the mid north of South Australia. The name reflects the fact that this is one of our leading wine regions.

On our last walk I managed the nice shot shown above with the last rays of sunshine lighting up the gum trees lining the walking trail.

Edithburgh Nature Reserve

Eucalyptus erythrocorys (red-capped gum), Edithburgh Nature Reserve

On the last morning of our recent holiday on the Yorke Peninsula we stopped for about an hour to wander through the Edithburgh Nature Reserve. This reserve, set up and maintained by a local community group, has been a focus of ours every time we visit the small coastal town. The reserve is at the western end of the main street and is open at all times to the public. Several excellent gravel paths suitable for wheelchairs meander through the reserve.

The reserve is not great for checking out a wide range of Australian Native Plants which interest my wife, it is also a good place within the town to see many of the local bush birds. Being only about 500 metres from the coast it is also possible to record a few sea birds flying overhead. My brother in law used to live opposite this park so we know it and its inhabitants quite well.

Apart from the birds I also enjoy the challenge of taking photos of wildflowers. I’ve dedicated this post to the plants in flower that we saw.

Christmas Greetings

Ama Dablam, Nepal

Christmas greetings to all of my regular readers.

I really appreciate those of you who are my regular readers. This site started from humble beginnings – but with grand plans. It took a little while to gain momentum but over the last year the number of readers has grown dramatically. I thank all of you who come back over and over; you all make it worthwhile.

Over the last year my posts here have been somewhat sporadic. I have been extremely busy completing my Masters degree. Now that it is finished I can devote more time to this and my other blogs, Trevor’s Birding and Trevor’s Writing. 2011 can only be bigger and better, with more wonderful photos and experiences to share.

How about leaving your own Christmas greetings in the comments section?

I’d be really pleased if you did.
