After leaving Castlemaine we travelled to the historic city of Bendigo. The ladies wanted to see an art exhibition but John and I weren’t all that keen on that. I took the opportunity to get some photos of this historic old city. The wealth of the city was built on gold. One of the mining poppet heads is shown above. It is now used as a lookout over the city.

You were probably wise not to visit the art gallery. Although it is really very good, the last time I was there I ran into Jeff Kennett. It was a long time ago, but I’m still recovering.

The exhibition they went to see was on the history of clothing. Didn’t interest me – all I had to do was look in my wardrobe.

About Jeff – have you sought counselling?

    Hi Trevor,

I am a member of a Twinning Committee here in St. Just, Cornwall, UK. Aliong with Penzance we are twinned with Nevada City, Colorado, USA – Concarneau, France – Cuxhaven, Germany and Bendigo, Australia. We are stting up a website for those people who would like see what we are up to. One thing we lack is pictures of our American and Australian ‘twins’ and having seen your pics of Bendigo, I wonder if you would allow us to use soem of those you have on your website?

Hope you don’t mind us asking, Dave Smith

    Hi Dave,

Sorry about the delay in replying – late last year I was totally focussed on completing my Masters degree (I graduate this coming Saturday – yay!) and a few questions and comments slipped through unanswered.

I’m happy for you to use some of my photos provided I’m acknowledged as the photographer and a link made back to my site. When you’ve done that, let me know and I’ll reciprocate with a link back to you.

    Thanks for asking.

Wow, how time flies. Never checked this site until now and I find there has been a reply to my request sitting there for over 4 months!! Apologies for the late reply, so much to do and not enough time…….
Firstly, congratulations, (belated) on graduating with your Masters Degree, well done. Secondly, thank you so much for your permission to use some of your pics. We had a Twinning Meeting today and the web=site was discussed, again, but this time it seems more certain than ever that we will soon be up and running.
Our Chair, Margaret Freeman visited Bendigo around Easter as a guest of your Twinning Committee. She had a great time, met some terrific people and fell in love with your City and I believe a couple of Bendigoans will be visiting Penzance/St. just later this year.
    Thanks again, Dave S
